British post punk goes for a ride

White-lies-ride-cover

When you thought that no one could ever cover Lana Del Rey and have the same passion and emotions that she has, well the White Lies have come along and done that and produced an amazing cover of her hit 'Ride'.

What i love about this cover is the distinctiveness of the lead singer Harry McVeigh voice and how he managed to keep the Del Rey vibe without losing his unique sound. "First and foremost, 'Ride' has stood out as a thoroughly evocative and accomplished piece of songwriting against a lot less inventive contemporary efforts," says bassist Charles Cave, adding, "It's written using the Lydian mode which, consciously or not, is an unusual harmonic palette to draw on for pop music in 2013! That kind of thing gives us boys a real kick and tickle, so we were drawn to it from the get-go.

I've been a big fan of White Lies for a long time, and their live performances are always on point, and this cover really shows off their talent. I can say with no hesitation that i'll be listening to this cover on repeat.
